Poça da Dona Beija
Poça da Dona Beija also known as “Poço da Juventude”, “Água do Poço” or “Poça do Paraíso”. Name inspired by a Brazilian soap opera that enchanted the Portuguese in the 80s, where the character “Dona Beija” bathed in a waterfall. It all started in the pool of the Lomba dos Barracas cave, which was used and frequented by people where the water flowed to the ground, enriching the yam culture “hot water yams of Furnas” characteristic in the surrounding area.
In 2010, the official post-requalification opening of the doors to the public of what is known today as Poça da Dona Beija. A space with refinement, organization and daily maintenance by a private entity.
Poça da Dona Beija is part of a set of iron-rich hot springs linked to volcanic phenomena that are part of the history of the Furnas valley crater. Its formation comes from existing underground thermal aquifers, which causes the water, in permanent contact with rocks subject to high temperatures, to gradually heat up, reaching an average temperature of 39º C.
On site there is a natural hot spring inside a cave, which supplies the 5 pools / hot spring water tanks, with different depths and average temperatures. Named as Ribeira, Serena Mística, Meditação and Convívio Thermae.
Entrance fee for all ages.
